July Fourth Extravaganza

Our Independence Extravaganza is fun for the whole family! In 2017, our Independence Extravaganza events run from Saturday, July 1, through Tuesday, July 4. The Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each of these days (with free admission on Sunday, July 2).

1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Early Bird Check-in for the Lighthouse 5-K Run (presented by Fleet Feet Sports)

Runners who registered by June 29 can pick up their bibs and t-shirts in the lighthouse pavilion.

7:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Breakfast on the Bluff

Enjoy a hot breakfast of pancakes; eggs; sausages; coffee, tea, or juice outdoors under a tent on the Lighthouse bluff overlooking Lake Ontario. Cost is $8 with proceeds helping to maintain our beautiful lighthouse.

7:30 a.m.-8:45 a.m. Registration for the Lighthouse 5-K Run

8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Art & Craft Show

Artists and craftspeople sell pottery, jewelry, clothing, paintings, photographs, greeting cards, and much more on the Lighthouse Lawn. Registration for the Lighthouse Art & Craft Show.

9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Lighthouse 5-K Run

This popular 5-K Race, presented by Fleet Feet Sports, draws almost 700 runners to its USA Track & Field certified course.

2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. FREE Outdoor Concert

The first concert of the summer season features Gap Mangione Big Band playing swing and Big Band favorites. Refreshments are available.

7:00 p.m. Sunshine Auto Parade

This popular auto parade is a must-see event every year. Cars line up on Sentell Street at 6:30 p.m. Parade route: Sentell Street, left (north) on Route 14, right on Bay Street, around “The Loop,” end at the Oscar Fuerst Ball Field. (Vehicles only; no floats or trailers; no throwing candy.) Sponsored by the Village of Sodus Point and organized by Howard and Cory Potter, Gene and Shirley Bassage, and Sue Bassage.

10:00 p.m. Village of Sodus Point Fireworks Display

The lawn of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse provides a perfect location to watch the fireworks, which are set off on the Sodus Bay channel pier.

10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Red, White, and Blue Kiddie Parade

Children in costume march from the Sodus Point Fire Hall, 8364 Bay Street, to the Pavilion of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum, 7606 North Ontario Street. Participants receive ribbons and refreshments.
